I have an infitity and my temps idle at the mo are 57 on TAT. I have tried reseating the heatsink around 10 times, trying different positions and thermal paste. Whats the average TAT idle temps for my cpu running at 1.4v

my pc is still orthos stable, just worried they are too high, they can reach up to 80 when on load

You're not alone in high TAT temps - mine push 70 under load at stock voltage, yet the heatsink is near vacuum sealed to the CPU with arctic silver, and neither the sink or the back of the motherboard actually feel hot.

Core Temp reads only 54 under load, as does Speedfan, and I'm inclined to trust them over TAT given the physical evidence...

As long as it's stable, why worry? Tis only hardware ^^

yep, but those are HOT

i solved mine by watercooling, extreme i know, but i fancied the challenge!

i want to get water cooling aswel but havnt got a clue what im doin, would u say its easy

Its not too hard... just doing some research and people in this forum will help :)... OcUk have a great line of watercooling products

Have you checked to see what imprint you have in your TIM, a lot of the IHS aren't flat, they're sunken in the middle so they don't actually make contact with your heatsink.

I lapped the processor and used a thin-as-possible layer of AS5 and dropped my temps from 55 idle to 40 idle, but it's still not great. I think my Freezer 7 Pro just isn't up to the job :(

Fit the stock cooler (If you have one) that should give you and indication as to the Ac Pro's ability.

Some info on my cpu
My E6400 @ 2400MHz idles 36°C - 37°C (16°C room temp) on stock cooler.
With 120mm exhaust and 120mm intake both fans are running around 1400 - 1500rpm

My AS5 application was rice grain size in the middle of the cpu.

I have an E6600 cooled by a Coolermaster Hyper TX fan (comparable to the Arctic Freezer Pro in performance). My CPU temp 31c and has yet to exceed 36c under load. I used Arctic Silver 5 and simply followed the instructions on the Arctic Silver website to apply the paste. It took two minutes at most. I wonder if these high temps are motherboard or chipset related?

thing is I think some of it could be measurement.

I for instance cannot even feel any warmth from my heatsink when CPU is under-load

YET my old P4 - I burnt my fingers on it !

If you cannot feel any warmth from the heatsink when the cpu is underload and you have high temps then it suggests that the heat transfer between cpu and h/s is poor.
