As the title really... I'm new to Vista64 and am finding the switchover from XP a little had, although i really do like the look and feel of Vista...

The one thing thats bugging me is the fact that my Hard-Drive seems to be thrashing around all the time, even when i'm doing nothing... Whats going on?

Also, is there anything that i should/shouldn't set in Vista64 to make it run smoother?

Hope someone can help, i'm a complete Vista64 n00b... :D

Either that or (if you have a lot of RAM) it's Superfetching. Can take a while after bootup especially if you have slow/fragmented drives.

Heh, i know how you feel, my raptor makes a helluva noise when vista is arsing about with it.

Your telling me. I've turned of Indexing and it's still noisey as hell. Its now at the stage where im ditching my Raided raptors and going for a single quiter HDD.

If you google it, you will find a lot of helpful guides on how to disable certain things, but it's mostly down to the memory and superfetch. It's moslty nosiy during a fresh install of the OS....it should clam down within a few weeks.

And yeah i agree, a raptor doesn't help, there very noisy in Vista :D lol..

I find my install thrashes for a little bit after it boots, then when in low power mode( IE Screen off, but still running), it will thrash, also after installing a driver in some cases, causing shut down to be delayed. I find installing drivers in safe mode stops this. I have not turned off any indexing or superfetch, whats the point? I got Vista for those advanced features.

I turned off indexing as all my documents are stored on my server, so i have never searched the hard drive for a file yet. Superfetch, of course, stays on. I have to admit, I think id miss the Raptors noise if i got rid of it.
