Why is my PS3 getting hotter?

I'd of figured the heat would have been the same, not worse. I understand that where it is, is a bit more confined, but it sits on something which has gaps in, it has about 5-6 inches of space above it, openings to both sides and space all the way to the back wall behind it, yet it's still getting rather warm. This is concerning me because where my TV is (slightly out of shot) on the picture is exactly where the console was before. I understand there is going to be somewhat more space underneath so perhaps more air can be easily drawn, as well as the heat getting free easier but why that much warmer?

I played Black Ops yesterday on Campaign for like 30 minutes an the disc was roasting hot, an the ambient temperature was only like 20c. In the past, where the console sat, playing games in 22c ambient was safe. My room is frequently warm. Mid summer, I'd say the ambient temp can approach 30c.

Note, in Summer 2010, MW2 cracked when I put it back in it's case after playing MW2 for about 3-4 hours straight when it was about 26-28c in my room. That's how hot the discs get.

What's the dealio!? :( I have limited space, especially now I have that TV there.

Peace

Was doing some reading and some people say the power plug could be in the wrong way? This is only for the slim models. Didn't know power plugs could be insereted more than one way.

Slim is weird.

Well it is just a generic cable and a generic slot so that doesn't surprise me.

I dont know what way mine is in but it is not hot at all unless im on it all day.

It might be full of dust/pet hair etc?
Therefore blocking the vents and so making everything inside hotter?

this is usually the issue with the older models, with the 40gb models there is a technique to clear all the dust out, not sure if they ever did that for the new slim models

I don't have dust, an when I moved my room around the other day I actually hoovered the back grill.

How can the power cable be the wrong way round? LOL, it doesn't have any markers on to suggest a right or wrong way :|?

Spooky. Yes with it being low down to the ground now as opposed to being on top of the wooden stand thing, cat hair and dust is going to be an issue, whereas it wasn't before, but I cleaned my room yesterday because I got that TV.

I guess you could just try the hold eject button trick to blast the internal fan at full speed just to make sure.

Or perhaps maybe some Hi-Fi-style feet, coins, thick bottle caps or whatever to levitate the PS3 off the surface a little bit. That way you have a small gap underneath for a little bit of extra air to get through.
