Why is origin such an awful program.

I mean compared to steam this program is so useless!
Its just updated and now its forgot my username which it normally saves, so ok no big deal but I need to retype it in again. But then its quite normal for it to ask for my password even thou I have ticked the "remember me" box.

I also hate the layout

It's not the best, seems to crash fairly often as well.

Thankfully, there's only a handful of my games on there and it's rarely used.

I avoid it as much as I can, I didn't want to hate it since EA-bashing seems to be the cool thing to do but certainly in NZ it has been a nightmare trying to use Origin, repeated failed downloads, incorrect reporting on speeds and download progress and each time a patch is released I seem to end up reinstalling/downloading the game it 'updated'.

Origin has never crashed once for me. As a programme and service it's has been absolutely fine. Never use the rip off store though and would rather have all my games on steam.

I think Origin works quite well tbh. Not had any issues with it.

me neither but its popular to bash origin asmuch as possible , you would think these people are beeing paid by valve....

atleast EA meet there deadlines unlike valve lolwut time

friendlist on steam didnt work for about a year

To be honest if we all created a thread when an application crashed or something ocuk would be a very boring place. Origin just sits there, I like the fact I have I have added all my retail codes so no need for annoying discs. I quite like steam and origin, gfwl was a little lame but never had any real issues.

It's because EA designed Origin to make money. Valve designed Steam around giving customers a better experience with Valve products. Because of that attitude Steam has grown to be everything that it is now. EA will never have the same attitude and thus will never hope to match Steam.

That's not the debate though, it's not about EA as a company it's about origin as a reliable application.

Meet their deadlines by releasing unfinished and buggy products...

I don't mind Origin, not had any issues with it - I hate the GUI but it "works" ok for me, the early versions were not as great mind

I wasn't debating. I believe what I said is the reason Origin isn't as good as it should be.

Steam was designed give Valve customers a better experience with Valve games. It's grown into what it is with that same attitude in mind and that's why gamers have happily adopted it. Valve continue to improve Steam with the same attitude.

EA are only interested in sales and that's reflected in Origin.

Not quite true, from a purely marketing perspective its only in more recent updates that origin now opens on the store instead of the games you own....which makes more sense if you want sales and is what steam has been doing as long as I can remember - and lets not hold valve up as paragons...they are a company they want sales as much as ea...they go about it in a different way but at the end of the day they are just as sale focused...they just use a different carrot to manipulate you.

As to origin itself I think its fine, when you consider how good it is compared to steam when it was only a year old....now there was a glitchy program! Steam is a time tested and developed product, not really fair to compare it to origin...but personally even if you do I think it stands up well.

Plus competition is good! means cheaper games to be had, how can that be a bad thing!?

Even if it was good, I wouldn't want to use it.

I've had Steam for over seven years, all my games are central and on the same account.. I see no reason to use Origin at all, unless I get forced to.. like BF3 for example.

Remember seeing some EA game on Origin for £5 more than Steam (possibly Crysis 2 before it got removed from Steam), and that's with EA being able to cut out the middle man.. if that doesn't show greed I don't know what does.

Gamers tend to love Valve / Steam, where everyone hates EA.

I just don't see how Origin can beat Steam, even with a superior platform.. which they do not have.
