Why is RAM so cheap?

I've never noticed it, but when looking on some sites today it's dirt cheap.

I've had 4gb RAM for 2 years now which I paid £90 for, but apparently I can get 8gb for £30ish.

When I buy RAM, what do I look for?

This is my motherboard - I believe I can only use 2 slots as my CPU fan is blocking the other 2 so I guess I will be looking for 8gb.

RAM hasn't moved to DDR4 yet and computers can still run well on 4GB so people havent had to buy much (if any) new RAM.
This means DDR3 sticks are really easy to come across and there are plenty of them around.

Less demand + higher stock = lower prices.

Its a shame Gfx cards don't do the same.

went higher when a plant burnt down and so many in the market, opposite will happen when or if amd leave

Look for ram from a reputable company, then look warranty, speed and timings. 1600MHz shouldn't be higher than CL9 imo.

I remember the plant burning down prices sky rocketed. I had to pay £40 for a pair I bought for £18 previously before.
