Why is steam so BIG!

Got CSS,TF2,EP2 & HL2DM installed but my folder is ~ 13.2 gb!

Why? What can I do to make it smaller?

I don't understand your problem. Some games are 4gb these days and you have 4 installed.

Mine's 26gb at the moment. If you want to make it smaller then remove games.

If I'm not mistaken, aren't those available on DVD? Personally I'd get rid of Steam altogether...

You do realise that even when you buy the DVD of those games, you still have to install Steam and the games still take up the same space on your hard drive?

Why? Err - because you have 4 games installed?!

13Gb for 4 games isn't exactly a lot!

why are you complaining about steam being big? its nothing to do with steam, its the games it has!

it probably saves a lot of space because it shares a lot of files.

Ok thanks guys, seems I was being a total noob

It just confused me when I look under the games tabs that they are only like 1.5-2gb each but it must be all the patches.

Once they are downloaded they are unpacked and installed....

right click CS:S > delete local content

Having lost my original game cds, and having formatted and reinstalled windows a bunch of times, i must admit that Steam has proven to be fantastic.

I wanted to play CS source again, so i logged in, and there was my old game list.. i clicked install, and it downloaded and installed. Perfect

My steam folder was over 20Gb before, complete orange box install + CM4 for HL2, adding Hl, OpForce and BlueShift in there as well makes it even bigger!
