I've just been on the Apple Store site and there is over a hundred quid difference between the white and the black MacBook with the same spec (2GB RAM, 120GB HDD, 2GHz CPU). Anybody know why this is?

Are you sure you spec'd them the same? The difference is "only" £20 for identical specs now. It was reduced along with the new wave of MBs.

They're definitely counting on the "screw it, the black one looks freakin' badass" line of thinking and I must grudgingly agree that it's worth it. :D

I had a black one - granted it looks ok for a while, but fingerprints etc soon spoil that and you cnt get rid of them.

sold mine and got a white one instead.

I'm pretty sure I've spec'd them the same. If there is a difference other than the colour, I can't spot it. Is this reported £20 difference one you've noticed from using the website, or did you read it somewhere?

Just look at the website.

White 2.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD (from 80GB) -> £979
Black 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD ->£999

White 2.0 GHz, 2GB RAM (from 1GB), 120GB HDD (from 80GB) ->£1099
Black 2.0Ghz, 2GB RAM (from 1GB), 120GB HDD -> £1119

Yeah, that's right. I must have done something wrong before. I suppose twenty quid difference isn't that much. I'll probably toss a coin in the end.

It was £100 more expensive before because it has a Matte paint finish (rubbery instead of sleek plastic)

It's down to £20 now because Apple are having their Thanksgiving sale :cool:

OIC. That's pretty rubbish. I would prefer the black version ...

that's exactly the reason why it costs more. it's simple microeconomics. it's price PRICE DISCRIMINATION, done to keep the demand for the two versions even.
