Why is the HDD in my 360 13gig?

It's normal.

There's a load of stuff already on it on separate partions. Don't think you can free it up very much though.

i think most of the space u dont see is for all the live updates and stuff they will release :)

not sure it'll be used for this. Think the other 7gb is taken up with the OS and drivers and stuff (profiles, gamer pictures etc...) Could be wrong though.

On the original xbox, The 10 gig hard drive only had about 4.5 of usable space, yet 1.8 could be unlocked. They seem to throw extra partitions around for no apparant reason.

The backward compatibilty with xbox games requires an emulator, apparently this requires a fair chunk of disc space.

The HDD (or memory card) will store gamer profiles, saved games etc but the operating system and drivers must be in other memory, eg ROM. Think about it - how else would you be able to turn on your 360 without a hard disk/memory card in?

In the Full Auto manual, the HD has '54GB Free' in one of the screenshots. I want a 60GB drive for my Xbox :(

MMOs will need a lot of HD space because by their very nature they need to release new content constantly. Based on FFXI, you'll only be able to fit two MMOs at most on the existing HD.

When/If WoW is announced for the 360, no doubt MS will suddenly announce a new larger HD. Hope they develop a way of transferring data from one HD to another.

Hmmm would like to see the inclusion of usb HDD support, stick a 200gigger on

I'm interested to see how MS play the HDD situation in the next year, as people are easily going to run out of space if they download all the latest demos, as demos are all weighing in a least 500MB. They need a compact HDD that'll fit nicely in the USB port at the back next to the wireless controller. Somehow.

If they release a new and larger one, Id imagine it would just replace the old one, as its detachable.

It would need to be a microdrive to be of any usable size and then it will flatten your controller battery's in a few hours + the access time would suck.

I think that DaveyD meant that he thought a hard drive should be on the back of the console, not the controller, next to the (optional) wireless network adapter.
