Why is the overall tone of GD so right wing?

I've been wondering this for a while now. In theory, this forum should represent a reasonably broad spectrum of the UK population?

I genuinely believe that everyone is entitled to an opinion and are free to follow whichever particular path they chose but there seems to be a propensity on here for a distinctly right of center viewpoint.

Anyone care to enlighten me? I'm drunk and bored, a dangerous combination!

I think it's like posting negative reviews online - only ****ed off people want to express their opinion.
The content ones don't bother.

That's my guess atleast :p

Not everyone IS entitled to an opinion, and I wish people would stop telling people this.

Everyone is entitled to an informed opinion, something based in reality. People love to use "it's my opinion" to say what ever utter crap they want.

Also, I've noticed a correlation, the more extreme their right wing opinions tend to be, the worse their English skills are.

I don't think it's fair to call people "uneducated" just for being right wing. Insulting someone based on their politics doesn't really help that argument.

Edit: to answer the question, a large majority of the UK population is right-wing or atleast mid to right- and most of us here are from the UK.

More people voted Conservative than any other political party in the last GE, why shouldn't this forum reflect that?

They might have won more seats than any other party, but very almost 2/3rd of voters voted for someone else. To claim their election victory is somehow indicative of their universal appeal is disingenuous.

Because of this

B@

This made me spit my wine all over my keyboard. Especially coming from the DM. HA!

Largely because we have a disproportionate number of well off Londoners on these boards, or those who aspire to be wealthy Londoners.

Possibly true, and quite worrying to be honest. I've been wondering for a while if perhaps we should hive off london into a little country of it's own. Maybe float it out somewhere into the North Sea, somewhere around Doggerland.

Not entirely true. I went to school with some incredibly right wing people and they were possibly some of the most well erudite and well educated people I've known.

Everyones opinion is informed to some extent and who are you to say your particular take on things is more valid than anyone elses?

Indeed. If you can't form a cogent argument as to why peoples politics are, in your opinion, incorrect, you should probably STFU.

Soooo, this thread is for left wingers to congratulate themselves on being smarter than everyone else?

Got it.

I never said it was entirely true. Some people just have crass views. However a large proportion of them are just stupid.

Because some people's opinions aren't informed at all. As I said, some people use it as a means to say any old crap and defend it with "it's my opinion, I can say it".
