Why is this RAM so cheap? (4GB Crucial)

It is cheap because it is low end Ram...

Yes it will be fine with any non high performance system, as long as it it is compatible of course !!!

;)

Hi there

No its cheap because OcUK is very good at purchasing. You won't find 4GB of RAM cheaper anywhere else. :)

A question.

After you've worked hard to get such a good deal on your components........what do you use to get the taste out of your mouth?

 :p

It's a superb price. As .SJ says it's over twice as much direct from Crucial. It was £140 when I checked earlier. Too good a price to pass up for me. I've used Crucial's standard memory for years and it's never given me any problem when running at stock speed or slightly overclocked.

would this go to 5300 speed cas5 with no problems? if so might buy some:)

It doesn't for me. But that shouldn't matter as any machine will run it 1:1 with a 1066MHz CPU and it'll work very, very well like that.

I obviously haven't made the adjustment from the old AMD ways of thinking, but why is the RAM speed so important on the conroe builds - can't you just run the ram on a divider like we used to, or is there a massive performance hit?

I really like the idea of 8Gb of this stuff (esp at that price ;) ) But would be disappointed if it hamstrung my machine - I thought it was only the Mobo that held you back as some are not capable of a high enough FSB to OC the C2Ds to the dizzy heights of 3.6 and beyond?

It used to be AMD likes low latency, Intel likes pure Mhz.. although on C2Ds with a NV chipset both seem to help.

but you can still run your memory on a divider right - so you can clock the chip by raising the FSB, but keep the RAM at stock?

Not on Intel chipsets. It is possible with NVidia and ATI chipsets.

Hi,

Will these work on a P35 motherboard?

Thanks.

Yes, at stock speeds (plus a little over). Mine only go to 635MHz so the maximum overclock I can get is 2.54GHz on my Xeon 3210, so they're not great for overclocking.
