this may be normal:rolleyes:

i have a wireless router.modem and 2 pc connecting wirelessly, both pcs connect at 54mbs, it takes me 90 secs to tranfer a 75mb file from 1 pc to the other, am i naive thinking it should transfer at 54mbs ? :(

i was hoping to use the other pc with a large hard drive and store and stream hd dvd movies ie mkv files, is my wireless network fast enough for this.

Best case scenario you are looking at about 2.5MB/s after overheads, etc

So about 30 secs then.

Wireless is poor depending on signal strength etc.

sid

cheers, the signal strength is showing strong on both pcs. i set them up using the windows network wizard is this sufficient?

depending on quality of router, you'll get mixed results for 720 - either playing very very stuttery, or may get it streaming fine

1080 however i've had no success with whatsoever

if you can, go for wired

i just tried 720 and it played ok for a while then got stuttery so at present its unreliable. i would rather avoid going wired

i have a dlink modem/router, a dlink usb adapter on my htpc (its close to router so signal fine), a belkin pci wireless adapter on other pc

i know the usb things aint meant to be great but the signal is fine.

Try a cable on the htpc, if its close to the router then you may as well wire it.

i tried the cable only with the htpc and the same file transferred in 50 seconds, i then had cable only with the other pc and the file transferred in 55 seconds. so a good improvement just by connecting 1 pc to the router.

i will need to try and stream a hd movie when i get time and see how it plays, if i were downloading stuff i suppose this would interfere with me streaming a hd movie?

oh and guys i aint talking about high def gaming i mean stream my high def movies from one pc to the htpc.

thanks for the help

would it be worth goiong for a 108mb wireless router and pci cards, should this allow me to stream my hd movies ok?

am i right in thinking any internet use on either pc would affect the movie streaming and possible give me playback problems?

is there a tool that test the actual tranfer rate of my wireless connection?
