Im joining the army next year and lately all im hearing is bad stuff off the tv and newspapers that the army is not what it used to be. Soilders going AWOL, extremely poor living conditions, no repect for the army anymore, no one wants to join thats why the upped the age restriction, and of course there just seen as another number :(

So i would like some reasons why i should join the army heres my personal reasons:
Ive always wanted to do its since i was very little.
To see the world
To do my part in protecting this great country
To be a better person whos disciplined and a real man :) :p

Ill be leaving a good job that pays good money, which i keep getting told is crazy that the money is really poor in the army. All i say to them is you dont join the army for the money which im right.

Anyway im just looking for some positve vibes about the army :)

Try and find a primary source for stories about what it's really like, don't rely on tabloids. There are a couple of posters here who have served in Iraq, NI, Afghanistan, Bosnia etc.

You're a warehouse operative according to your profile? Does that really pay much better than the army? The army also presumably has better career opportunities.

Because you love your country and want to serve and protect it, you want to serve your Queen.

You want to better your self.

You have bravery and the heart to fight.

It's the best thing you'll ever do.

And it's a hell of a lot better than a job in civvy street.

You'd support your country in doing something you thought was wrong?

Obviously! The occupation in Iraq is wrong in my eyes, but if I where English then I'd think that some good will come out of it and definitely fight the war anyway.

Been wanting to join for years

I just dont agree with the current war

Maybe if we get starrted in a nice war(lol?)

I like a challenge, self motivation, pushing my self that little further

ive been to 2 training day outs with the army and loved it

I love tactics and the clever side of the army

Anyway

yea

Why obviously? I am English but I don't support it or think any good will come of it. Blindly supporting your government just because they are your government strikes me as, well, stupid.

As said, look for real life accounts of life in the forces as opposed to media babble (anything for a good story). Try visiting a base, its great fun! :D

With regards to how they treat you in the Army I know very little. I believe. that as a squaddie, you are broken down and built back up into what they want you to be. It is demanding both mentally and physically, however, of you think you have a good mind and leadership skills how about an officer role? Do you hold a degree.

Are you dead set on joining the Army? Have you considered the RAF or Navy? My belief is, the Army recruit anyone to break down and mould into what they want you to be, the RAF and Navy employ you more on your own personal merit and qualities i.e. you dont choose them, they choose you.

As for any role in the military you will benefit from learning new skills, meeting new people, travel, job satisfaction, medical & dental subsidiaries, an early retirement and a career in which not one day would be the same. The down side is that if you don't like being told what to do you won't get along. Its very hard work (but rewarding all the same). You are expected to put your life in danger for your country.

The fear of working alongside people with this attitude is reason enough not to join tbh.

I've never understood this idea, I would never fight for my country, only for the protection of my friends and family, and I would especially not fight if the war was unjustified.

"if I had to choose between betraying my country and betraying my friend, I hope I should have the guts to betray my country" - E.M. Forster

Just make sure you go the extra way when you're in and ensure that any qualifications you get are indeed of value in civvie life. Apart from that, it's a good idea, may I ask what career in the army are you looking for?
