So, currently sat in Donnington Park services waiting for the RAC.

Driving down the M1 this morning I noticed a petrol smell when I slowed in traffic. Was right by the services so nipped off to see what it was thinking I might have been a tard and not done the fuel cap up enough.

Get out of the car to find what I think is oil and fuel ****ing out the bottom of the engine. No engine warning lights, nothing.

Called Skoda assist who are on their way.

Bets on the issue?

Absolutely typical considering I needed to be in London for 10, need to get home to Chelt tomorrow, and need to get to LHR on Saturday for our honeymoon.

HAPPY DAYS.

I've done about 140 miles so far this morning, theres no way I'm reaching round a scorching hot engine when I have breakdown cover ! Oil filter is on the other side of the engine.

Interestingly its not doing it with the engine off, so I wonder if its some sort of split on a return hose and its oil and fuel vapour? the puddle is pretty decently sized though (A4 sheet size)

Sorry, forgot about this.

The oil beng on the floor from this split hose is my guess.

It was the fuel hose that goes over the top back of the engine, and fuel was literally spraying everywhere when the ignition was on. I'd topped up with oil at the weekend and spilt some as it was a new bottle, so im guessing it was that which ended up on the road. Bare in mind it was a service station car park so it might have just come up off the road with the fuel.

The chap tried to fix the hose with some tape to start with, but the petrol just disolved the glue. In the end he cut the pipe shorter, re routed it and put a jubilee clip on to keep me going. Contacting Skoda when I get back from the Honeymoon to book it in for a replacement pipe.

Regarding the car, I've been meaning to do a thread on it but havn't had chance, I'll try and do one when I get back in the UK.

Overall I've found fuel economy over the nearly 6k miles Ive done since Septemeber to be great. On a run, 60mph on cruise, no hiding behind lorries etc I've had 56.6mpg in the 220 miles from home to one of our offices (about 160miles of which is motorway. At 70 its high 40's, with 47 ish being the usual for that run.

Performance is certainly respectable. Once remapped which I hope to do once i've got more miles on it it is rather impressive, even more so when you think its just a 1.4. Overtakes are an absolute breeze and I love the DSG box. Sure, its no 6spd manual from my old S2000, but its more than acceptable.
