why my laptop's cpu is runing so slow?

Hey guys;

I just bought a new laptop few days ago. It is

"Compaq Presario AMD Turion 64 ML-32 1.8GHz Laptop (V2570)"

I got it from future shop. It has 512mb ram. Its cpu speed which supposed to be 1.8GHz, it is running right now @ 789MHz. When I just bought this laptop right after its first start I checked the speed of cpu, it was 1.7GHz, and few hrs later it was 1.5Ghz. What is going on? Why the speed of this cpu is changing?

Now, last two days the speed is stuck at 789MHz, even when I freshly start it in the morning.

Is this computer supposed to run like that? or Is there something wrong with? I am still able to return it to future shop, I still got 11 days to do so.

what to do? pls help guys...

It downclocks the cpu speed when not used hard, this will improve battery life, moniter it and boot up a intensive program or something, it should go up.

you have to set it as "always on" in the powersaving mode

control panel->power options->power scheme="home/office desk"
