Hi All,

I was just looking at the Intel Core 2 Quad chips and noticed there are no Q9770 CPU's listed in ocuk (or many places for that matter)

Did I miss something? Why are they no longer available. I am after a high end quad to stick in my 780i *** but it seems the q9650 is the highest option?

Any info would be great.

Thanks for the reply.

I can understand why Intel would do that but it really is annoying. When you consider how widespread the LGA775 socket is you would think there was still money to be made with the higher end CPU's.

But I guess Intel are a little more experiance than me in both making money and processor roadmaps;)

You've missed the point slightly I think. The q9770 was retailing around the thousand pound mark. no one is going to buy that when you can get an i7 + motherboard + ram for less.

Further, the q9650 clocks beautifully and costs about a quarter what the q9770 did. The q9770 is likely to clock one or two hundred mhz higher, but the q9650 is hardly slow :)

Thanks again for all the replies,

I am now looking at getting a quad but as with everyone at the moment money is tight. I currently havve an E8600 which I can run 24/7 at 4Ghz and bench at around 4.5Ghz.

If I go quad I am guessing that I will lose performace in apps which do not address all 4 core as I have not seen many, if any, that can clock that high.

Please recommend a good quad to go for, it is being paired with the EVGA 780i FOR THE WIN and a TRUE cooler.

If poss please quote the multiplier of any chip being suggested so I can try and gague OC potential authough I am sure clocking a quad will change what FSB I can hit anyways.

Thanks all, I know I have asked a lot of questions here but your efforts really are appreciated.;)
