Why boffins, why?!!

OLED TV's are starting to become a realistic consumer purchase (eg the LG 55EC930V for about 2 grand).

OLED sounds like the holy grail for picture quality and truer than true blacks, and far as I know motion clarity and response time is good.

So why no OLED computer monitors yet, anyone know what's what, or have sensible guesses? And When is it likely to happen?

AFAIK, they still cost an absolute fortune to make on a large scale.

But I imagine the main reason is due to burn in, which will be of a much larger issue with PC usage (since we have loads of static icons etc.)

From what I have read on the OLED TV's, they still have a lot of problems, screen uniformity & tint issues, quality/colours degrading after a while and whilst motion might be "fine", supposedly a top end plasma + LCD are much better still.

Sony make some, we have a PVM at work. It's outrageous. Hands down the best image I've seen on a computer screen. Cost over 4 grand though.

Well that's some compelling reason's, why the technology hasn't matured enough to compete with TN or ISP panels.
A real shame, but in a few years, I am confident they will have worked through most of the issue's (We hope.)

In the mean time, I shall continue to use my Dell U3014 for daily use.
And wait for the day 32-40" 4K OLED are made available to consumers. :D

Yup I expect them to have sorted most of the issues out within a year or two and maybe we will finally see cost affordable OLED monitors in about 3 years...
