my dad just got a 42inch plasma for the living room and its a brilliant piece of kit

specs are

1920x1080p

100Hz Double Scan

30,000:1 Native Contrast

1,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast

0.001 msec Response time

can you imagine a 22, 24 PC monitor with those specs
i know it will be more expensive than LCD but i dont mind paying extra for it

square pixels on 1080p panels.....

it'll be due to a combination of factors, cost of production, image retention and screen burn issues ect. its not really viable.

Do they really have 1920x1080 physical pixels (picture elements) though?

You don't want any sort of interpolation going on for a computer monitor.
