On the way back today through the awful fog i suddenly found myself asking 'why no rear fog's on HGV's?' as i watched someone nearly go into the back on one.

If i'm correct, rear fogs are now a legal requirement for cars so why not HGV's?

I've seen loads of HGV's with rear fogs, and the ones my dad drives all do. It is a legal requirment to have them fitted, but its up to the driver to turn them on.

What about HGVs from across the borders? I am ensure of the laws regarding fog lights in other countries but I think Japan etc don't need to have them installed (hence why a number of imports have bolt-on fog lights)

If they nearly went into the back they were obviously going to fast and not because he did not have his foglights on...If a car went into the back of a fully loaded artic the artic would feel nothing....a good incentive to drive within the limits of car and weather....lol.

Many years ago an artic went into the back of my dad's artic when he was fully loaded 38tonnes then....he bareley felt a bump....the front of the other artic was left in a L shape at the front.....if you are in a car you are dead..

Why do people drive with the stopping point of the car beyond the piont in the fog where you can no longer see. Maybe suicide...lol

Not sure about haulage LGV's etc, I would imagine that most have them.

All our Volvo fire appliances have front and rear fogs fitted, I know that.

Not many of the trailers at our place (we have about 80) have fog lights, all of the tractor units do have them (as legally required).

a lot of the trailers also have no reversing lights.

Anybody who drives into the back of an LGV - fog or no fog - is a cretin who seriously needs an eye test!

I was just thinking that. They have enough marker lights on. If you cant see one before you run it up the chuff, then you should be paying more attention.

That said, my dads trailer and my friends dads both have rear fogs :)
