Why no support for a fairly new printer?

I've gone from W7HP 32-bit to the 64-bit version this week, and have discovered that my three year old Canon laser printer will not work at all with this software. 32-bit support is there, and I was happily using it from the day W7 came out. Is there a particular reason that the 64-bit OS is not supported?

3 years old.

Fairly new.

Does not compute.

Seriously, if there's no W7 64 bit driver then try one for Vista 64 bit if there is one. They quite often work.

Microsoft force hardware venders to provide 64bit drivers as well as 32 these days, don't know if that applys to ~3 years ago. If you can unpack the 32bit driver to a folder than try to manually update the device from Device Manager, point it to the location of the .inf file

Well, it's no more than three years old, and that equates to fairly new in my eyes - it's not as if laser technology is advancing at the same rate as most of the components in my new PC. I could understand it if I was trying to get a three year old CPU/mobo/GFX card to work, but a printer?

What's worse is that Canon have provided 64-bit drivers for a host of other printers and scanners of the same or older era. Thankfully my LiDE 60 scanner (about five years old) is supported.

Going HP next time I think...
