i change my mind every day as to which 24" monitor to buy.....anyway, i notice the LCD2470WNX is hardly mentioned in these forums dispite having pretty good reviews..
any reason why?

its driving me nuts choosing which to buy...today it was the sm-245t, tomorrow, who knows :)

Exactly the same situation as you. The Benq FP241W keeps getting put in the shopping basket, then the Dell 2407 HC. Today it has been that Hyundia that overclockers are doing. :D

Not much talk of it probably because OCUK doesn't stock it.

The problem I find with choosing one of these big LCDs is if you read enough reviews you will eventually find a negative review of every model which says poor colour / ghosting etc, when other reviews say it is perfect. There is just too much subjectivity and personal opinion when it comes to reviewing these monitors.

I've just taken the plunge and ordered a 2470WNX, based on a good personal recommendation (I haven't seen it in action) and the positive reviews regarding image/colour quality and build quality.

It will be with me tomorrow, I wasn't going to open it until my new PC is built and up and running, but I might be tempted so I can give you a bit of a review.

No menton of it being wide-gamut, let me know what you think of the monitor.
It is a TN but you gain low-input lag and great response time.

my bad, then again you will suffer input lag and contrast shift.

any more contrast shift than you'd see on a TN Film panel!? ;) Also, this whole "PVA = input lag" thing which some people seem to cotton on to, it's not really proven or well understood....it is very rare to have input lag on a screen which actually causes any real problems in practice, just be aware of that.

Baddass - you seem to be the man to ask.

Can you tell me what would be better for gaming the new OcUK 24" PVA 6ms screen or the Acer 24" TN panel 2ms?

Huge thanks if you could answer that question. Apart from that I also watch movies and general browsing.

Hi mr_x_plosion, I can only give advice based on technologies and other guidance since I've not had chance to test these two personally as yet. The ocUK screen looks like it uses a VA panel from what has been said by Gibbo. This is likely to be pretty comparable in responsiveness to the rest of the 6ms G2G generation of VA panels, including models like the Dell 2407WFP (6ms G2G S-PVA) and BenQ FP241W. These panels are quite similar in terms of responsiveness in practice. Arguably they are slightly faster than the 5ms TN Film generation of panels, since the 5ms TN models do not use overdrive technology to boost grey to grey response times, like the VA panels do. However, when overdrive is applied to TN Film, it then improves things further, so an overdriven TN Film panel is commonly more responsive than an overdriven VA panel (general rule of thumb).

If you look at the 22" screens, you see a marked improvement between the 5ms models and then the models which feature overdrive as well (offering 2ms G2G listed spec). This is likely to be a similar pattern in the 24" market, but there haven't been a wide number of models (or tests) in this sector where TN Film meets overdrive. In theory, it should improve responsiveness, and if it is well controlled, it could prove a positive change, and could make it a little more responsive than the 6ms G2G VA generation.

It's hard to say really. Which Acer model are you meaning as well?

Cheers mate, I still cant decide.

The Acer is the P243W

Thanks

Nick

edit - also I doubt the viewing angles will matter to me as im pretty much head on with my 19" crt

ah yes. hard to know at this stage, depends how RTC impacts the 24" panels, as it took them a bit of time to get it right in the 22" market first of all. I'd say it could be quite comparable really, you may not spot much real difference. A VA panel certainly has the edge in other regards, especially viewing angles :)

Thanks again. Spot my ninja edit lol.

Also could you tell me what HDCP support is and do I need it? The Acer has it but Gibbo isnt sure on the OcUK one.

NEC AccuSync® LCD24WMCX 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Piano Black

Overclockers sell this.it does 1080P so would be good with the Xbox as well through HDMI.

Considering the Dell and the samsung both at 24".

Any input would be appreciated
thanks
