why screen flicker a login?

one thing that always annoys me is that i have a very capcable graphics card which i play all my games without issue at high graphics settings

BUT, when im loging into windows, the screen flickers and it looks shoddy for a computer of this specification

i thought it could be that the specific drivers dont initialise until youve logged in so it is using generic video drivers which is why it looks bad - but is this true?

why does it flicker at login?

If I was to guess it is when the res changes from login screen to desktop. I'm not 100% sure but I think the login screen has a lower res mostly?

Have you tried changing the refresh rate?
