Hi there!

Need to buy a notebook ASAP. Havent got room for a desktop anymore. Had a quick play in the Mac shop in Milton Keynes and they are sexy little things :D

Now. I just need a few of you to push me over the edge and buy one. What makes it the gadget to have? :)

Also, for you standard macbook users out there, is browsing the web on a 13" screen okay? do webpages display okay? :) and can i plug it into my samsung lcd tv?

dont let the "sexy thing fool you" many men have fallen for sexy thing's.
whats wrong with a normal notebook ?
why a mac ?

I was a little weary about getting a 13in display but it is fine.

Page will display just like on Windows. It always depends on your browser. So if Safari isn't your thing, get Firefox.

You can connect to your TV if it support DVI or VGA. If it does, you will need a mini-DVI -> DVI or mini-DVI -> VGA for the Macbook, and a lead.

Because you cant get the girls with a normal notebook.

Seriously though. When I played with one in the Mac shop it worked, everything worked super fast and it just "flowed". Not 100% how to explain but everything just clicks and works great. And i've been told you dont need to worry about drivers, firewalls etc

Thanks for your comments, tv supports vga so all will be fine. Safari is pretty sweet anyway, had a quick play with it.

very easy best notebooks out there are macs ok thats what i think no really testing done but i make the clam any way.

a macbook has a nice webcam on it the remote is wkd everything works everything works with it and tbh its just so nice to use every day.

i have a macbook pro i love it i had an ibook g4 and a macbook now the pro all of the where so good computers i would be happy to use them everyday.

i think windows is a nice os for games but thats about it every thing else osx and a mac will beat it. and if u need to run windows applications then just go and install boot camp very easy and u then have the best of both worlds

I'm in a similar situation. I've got a 3 1/2 yr old Dell 17" laptop that I'm looking to replace soon. I'm quite curious into giving the mac a try but the thought of going from a 17" right down to a 13" seems quite off putting.

Oh yeah i forgot they opened that up in the city centre! Take your self down to John Lewis at the other end and compair it to their selection of laptops :) (they have a few of the last generation of macbooks on summer sale last time i went there). It might quantify how complete a macbook feels in comparison to some laptops, or it might show that there are some really nice laptops out their (they have a few sony and toshiba ones id deffinatly consider over a mac)

Also if you ask someone who works there nicely they should let you have a play on them (they left the monster mac pro to play with last time i had a look) :)

Depending budget get a MBP.

erm, i would never ever buy a macbook...

macbook pros are good, but never a macbook... has anyone seen the screens they use? i mean i love macs right, honestly, i've had an iBook 12" 800MHz and then got an iMac 20" 2.16 Core2Duo (was the last "white" iMac released) but honestly, I wouldn't get a Macbook AT ALL or any of the new iMacs except the 24". I've seen all the new iMac's screens and they're low quality except for the 24" (i.e. 6-bit screens with dithering and whatever, looks ugly as hell... also they have 2 backlights at the bottom, instead of 4 like the old iMac, and you can really notice the uneven lighting on them)... but the 24" as far as I've heard isn't so bad

as for the Macbook, well my friend, medicine student, bought a white one, and the screen on that is POOR, and my other friend, she's a solicitor, bought a black one and the screen on that was also poor... i'm disgusted at Apple really... my old iBook 12" has better screens and it was the entry level monitor!!! this was the Blackbook so it was the best in its range and the screen was poor! what the hell is going on?!?

really, honestly, dont get a Mac unless it's a Mac Pro, or a 24" iMac (im even a bit unsure about this, never seen it for myself)... but in your case you want a laptop, dont get a macbook... maybe go for one of the first gen MacBook Pros that are refurb from the apple store... should be around the same price...

I'm honestly honestly not trying to make Apple look bad, or fool you, it's not to my benefit lol... but really really honestly I can't stress more, don't get a Macbook... please... seriously...

If you get a first generation refurb MacBook Pro, or maybe a second hand good condition one off eBay then you'll be happy... try to get a Core2Duo version if you can, but the Core Duo isn't THAT bad... honestly... if you've got the guts and dont mind about warranty, then replace the thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5 as well, it will REALLY REALLY help... the first gen MacBook Pros are known for having very high heat... also another issue they have is that their GPU is set to a lower clock speed in OS X (although you can overcome that with a utility once you've changed the thermal paste)...

i change thermal paste on laptops all the time, i even done my iBooks one (those are much harder to open than macbooks/powerbooks)... so it shouldn't be TOO much of an issue if you're familiar with it

but otherwise a mac is really the best laptop... software updates, firmware updates, everything taken care of you... nothing for you to worry about ;)

best of luck... watch how people disagree with me now!!! lol

You can get the MacBook screen looking not bad with a colour profile. But, as an owner, I agree that it's a fundamentally cheap / low quality screen. Should be a lot better.

i liked my macbook screen and found it very nice to use but love my pro more if u can get a pro low ram and hdd can upgrade later if u need to save money but the pro is the way to go if u can

Is that true about the 20" iMac screens? Are they really not very good?

I was going to buy one in a week or so's time. Now this is not what i needed to hear.

@ Ry@n, yea I'm sure. I bought one for a friend just when I was about to sell mine (mine was the last white Core2Duo 20" version) and when I used to use mine in Windows it was perfect... but when I used my mate's in windows it was VERY clear that the screen was bad quality... I did some research on it and found an article somewhere saying this too...

I know it's very upsetting to hear, but I figured it's better you get upset hearing it than buying it and realising :p The screen doesn't appear too bad in OSX, it does a good job of hiding the low quality of it, but its appalling in windows. It's still quite noticeable in OSX though.

if getting an iMac, try to go for the 24" iMac where they still use an 8-bit LCD (or so I've heard, I can't confirm they do), or go for a Macbook Pro where I think they use an 8-bit (haven't heard anything about it though, but I'd assume they do because of the number of professional photographers etc who would be complaining if they didn't).

For some people maybe the screen isn't important, but I think as it's the main thing you interface with, it's gotta be good.

I agree about screen quality being a major factor in how pleasant a computer is to use. That's why I can't see this NEC LCD20WGX2 being replaced any time soon for my desktop, even though I do fancy a greater resolution.

The MBP's panel is 6-bit / dithered and there was a lawsuit!
