Why should I get a QX9650 ?

wait till march. I believe there will be

790i mobo
possible price drop on ddr3 ram
penryns release
nvidia 9x range.

for 3 months wait its worth it - although Im sure people will disagree on the 790i mobo lol but something to give you an idea on what to expect from the mobos in 3 months time ;)

So is the QX9650 worth buying now ??? Or should I wait for the rest of the Yorkfield cpu's to be released ?
Of course its not worth buying! :D

Buy an E2160 instead and another twelve for ya mates!

3 questions.

1)Whats your job?

2)Will you adopt me?

3) if so, would you pay for me to learn to drive and let me drive your car :)

O and i recon perhaps later next year the extra clock speed you will be able to get over if you bought thr q6600 may start proving to benefit games, but by then there should be better quad core support and in that case you wont need suich a high clock.

overall i cant really see anything over a 3.6ghz q6600 needed. perhaps alan wake would benefit but cpu's are to far ahead of games in my opinion.

If all you do is game on that rig dave, then what a waste.

Quads come into their own when doing anything seriously cpu intensive. Rendering, encoding, etc. All have massive gains from a quad.

For quite allot of the work I do, even a quad at 3.8 is irritatingly slow.

OP get your qx9650, keep it till skulltrail. :D

probably max/maya/vue6/terragen and thats just graphics, then there's video composing, music making (with preffesional plugins) and then there's mixing it all up and doing multiple instances of those :p

there are loads of intensive things that quads still dont do great in. just best at the moment.
