I see M3's on the read every day, there are around 3000 E9x M3's on the road in the uk.

However I very rarely see a C63 AMG on the road. Maybe one ever few weeks.

Theyboth cost about the same at 55k

The C63 is a little faster on paper, looks and sounds like a monster so why does the M3 out sell it 3:1??

I think to most BMW = Drivers car (speed) and Mercedes = Cruiser.

I also think Mercedes appeals to an older, maybe not so adventurous market.

Image.

BMW and Mercedes appeal to hugely different markets (well, hugely different within the prestige sector, not hugely different like Mercedes and Subaru :p) and I suspect for the sort of person looking at a C63 or M3, the BMW image is generally speaking more appealing.

Funny how I'd always take the AMG alternative :D

But I do love Meecedes and the soundtrack on the v8's is glorious!

I hear what the OP is saying. There's loads of M3's round my way too. Seem very popular with the chavs. :D Not sure how on earth they afford insurance to be honest!

If they weren't so abundant I might get one but I like to be a bit different. Trouble is there's not much that can touch them as a good all round sports car for less than £10k.

At a guess I would think running costs may come into it. The AMG motor is a monster with a massive thirst and Mercedes servicing is really expensive compared to BMWs.

Good luck finding an E9* for less than £10k.

From my experience when you have driven both, spoken with the dealer and looked at a deal you will have a good idea why more M3's are sold.

Not much on list price, but BMW were a lot more flexible on prices, whereas MB would probaly try and charge you for dirtying their showroom.

Mercedes never seem quite sure what they're doing with their AMG cars.

Are they meant to be like the M- cars or more the ultimate autobahn cruiser?

The M3 OTOH you definitely know what it's all about.

Also I think brand probably awareness.

I'd take the C36 over the M3 in a heartbeat.

The C36 is ancient :p

Almost every man and his dog knows what an M3 is, not so with an AMG XXX

The BMW marketing machine is very good at what it does. I saw my first AMG tv add the other day (E Coupe), barely caught my attention at all. Plus it was a bit wierd, as if the fact it was an AMG was an after thought.

The merc still doesn't have an image that appeals to the younger man.

Iv owned every version of the M3 other than the e90 but i have to say that if i had to chose between the 2 i would take a c63 - they look and sound so good! They also seem to be holding their value better than the e90's

Wasn't that an E250 BlueEfficiency Sport AMG or something? They've started sticking AMG on the normal stuff now.

Check the 4 exhuasts where? I was talking about some advert he saw, not the thread in general. Not seen the advert myself, but it would seem logical that they'd start advertising the new AMG stick on tat range.
