Why do manufacturers still put a CD in the box - be easier if they just used a nice branded usb drive.I can’t be arsed with finding an external CD drive and some new boards haven’t got all the drivers up on sites yet.

USB flash drives degrade and cost more.

The other issue is unless they lock them so they can not be altered people may delete by mistake.

People still like having the CD/DVD the same with the manuals.

Some manufactures have started sending USB stick instead of a cd, seems to be on the higher end boards, we still get the CD with the budget boards we get in stock
.

many are just adding a label with QR code for url to download drivers
USB drives are more expensive. Can't trivially make a completely read only drive
So there is a danger that people could use them for other purposes than intended. Reuse them you might say
no capitalist company of any self worth will allow reduce, reuse. Some claim recycle, still all load of rubbish.

I'm surprised given it's more plastic. Can't they just say go to the website to download on the manual? I guess some people still live in the middle ages without internet
