whats the advantage of having a tft monitor over a crt monitor? is it worth buying a tft and throwing away my crt?

does anyone know how long it will be before these sed's (or whatever someone called them) come out and how much will they cost?
also i was looking at dell computers and wondered why they sell their comps with tft monitors, it must take a larger cut from their budget than if they sold the comps with crt monitors, so why do they do it?
