why the hell are apple macs so expensive

its got a ford mondeo engine and the x-type has a ford mondeo chassis...

point still stands - the apple mac is more than just a few of the components that any idiot can look at and try to make a direct comparison to some other computer sharing some of those components.

Ok The s type does not use a ford mondeo engine FACT

The Xtype used parts of the mondeo floorplan not the chassis FACT

But really what relevance that has here ....... I just do not know ??????

but it has a pretty Apple logo on it!*

:D

Actually its not. A Mac Pro is a workstation and an iMac has laptop components.

If you're talking about a standard desktop Quad Core PC there is no Mac equivalent.

A workstation is a PC. An apple maccy thing is an all in one desktop PC.

All-in-One computers are desktop computers that combine the monitor into the same case as the CPU. Apple has manufactured several popular examples of all-in-one computers, such as the original Macintosh of the mid-1980s and the iMac of the late 1990s and 2000s.

Yeah and how many people on here own Xeon 'PCs'? For their WoW gaming sessions and porn browsing?

Workstations don't tend to be used for personal computing, they are by definition 'work' devices. iMac's are more in line with standard deskop computing but then the hardware and design isn't comparable.

People don't typically tend to buy HP Z800's and then install Crysis on it, therefore there is no direct comparison.

;)

tbf, i dont really care whats better or not, you pay for what you get in both cases.

Spend a little bit extra on a Sony Vaio or IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptop and you get a decent machine.

Buy a Macbook and soon enough you get a broken/splitting plastic chassis, which for some reason normal laptops dont do often

:D

The word(?) 'PC' has two different meanings, one is personal computer, the other is talking about the 'IBM Compatible PC' which for many years now has just been known as a PC. It's quite obvious which meaning is being referred to in this thread.

That only happened on the old MacBooks and Apple replaced the whole top surface (inc keyboard and trackpad) no questions asked, outside of warranty, at the shop.

That is service you simply don't get from a Dell or similar.

Its funny how PC users (and yes I am one as well) hate on Mac's for being expensive yet whenever someone mentions that consoles can play games as well, they launch into a tirade of snobbery over how PC's are a billion times more powerful, have AA and higher resolutions and the hundreds of extra £££ they spent on getting FPS Clone 1000 to run properly is totally justified.

which one are we referring to?

I do believe that it has happen to the new unibody Macbooks also. Dell and HP or whoever probably dont give chassis warranty is because their cases probably dont crack up at room temperature :p

Again going from experience my XPS lasts over 7 hours doing basic word processing and I can easily watch 2-3 films in a row without having to plug it in (even 18 months later).

:o:o:o:o

What xps do you have?! I've had the m1710 and now own the m1730 and battery life was no where near what you got! Lucky to see 90mins at max powersave on the 1710 and 60mins on the 1730.

Because a PC can do more then just play games*...

*and look at porn

this is true tbh...

PS3 is perfectly capable of running yellow dog linux

for £300 you can get a decent gaming platform, have a PC capable of doing your basic PC type things like surfing the web, doing some word processing (Open office), editing photos (GIMP) etc..

why are PCs so expensive when you could get a PS3 for much less which can do most of your standard home PC type things and you'll be able to watch blue ray movies... :D

They're just computers with OSX on instead of Windows.
No, they're computers made by Apple.

I get your point though, one of my pet hates when I was doing tech support was when I asked "are you in front of your pc at the moment" those mac owners would come back in a very condescending voice with "oh it's not a PC it's a mac".

grrrr.

In reply to the OP I have to agree with whathisname and say that they are that expensive because people like the design of macs for whatever reason and in their mind the design justifies the price.

I don't personally have a problem with people paying a lot for technology however I dislike Apple and their follower's attitude. Those mac ads are nothing but propaganda, they take a truth about PCs and twist it until there's barely a semblance of the truth left, it's "apple truth".

The one thing I've learned from mac ads though is that macs are foolproof, so if you're a fool you should definitely get a mac :p
