Why to buy Games via Steam

What are your opinions on buying Games via Steam ?
I bought couple of them while on sale...
But Im looking for Batman AA and it is £14 on steam while you can buy game on DVD for £7...

and Im sure that even when you buy a DVD, once registered on steam , you can later just download it again even if you loose yor disks..

I think I will go for DVD....
what are your thoughts on this ?

I will always get a disc as my primary choice. I feel safer knowing I can go back to it whenever - I'm always worried about account hacking or the online company (in this case steam) going bust or having issues - or even having internet problem's myself and therefore can't play games through steam (afaik).

So, unless it's required (I only got Steam originally as it was necessary to play Empire Total War) OR there is some fantastic deal (I got ALL the Half life games for £4!) then disc for me :)

I only buy from steam when its a sale, i got batman:AA in the sales for £3.50. The reasons to buy from steam are if u dont want to wait for a game to be delivered if your not buying via shop or if they have one of there many awesome sales.

I personally can't stand optical media anymore. I pretty much exclusively buy from Steam now.

Although I will be buying Dead Space and Dragon Age from retail when they come out, solely for the extra benefits. But it's quite rare for me to do this.

some different opinions here, but it looks like most people use steam for games on sale :)

I bought Crysis pack and old Xcom games from Steam not long ago on Sale :)
and £3.50 for batman AA is an amazing price!!!

I will get dvd from rainforest or somewhere else...

Steam has fantastic sales, over Christmas aa was going dirt cheap :p
Generally, steam makes things far easier, automatically patching and so on, and most people would happily pay a little extra for the convenience, but there are also a ton of games that they are nowhere near being competitive on price with.

If I would be filthy rich I would get all my games from steam ;D

good side of it is that once you get game on dvd and it is game supported by steam, you can register it with them and bin dvd ;)

Well I use steam, updates the games, no media needed, backups easy as well... also I only buy in sales, or games that I really like... also like the way that all my games are in the library!

aaaaaaaah Steam my chum :D

I always buy retail where possible so I can sell the games on later.

Retail > EA Store (Vouchers, lack of DRM) > Steam.

Steam sales are brilliant though (not that I complete most of the games I buy from them!)

I only use Steam for Pc games now with rare exceptions. I was a die hard retail fan but now I much prefer to have all my games in one location at the click of a button - I couldn't care less about paying a few extra quid for them, I'd probablly use that in petrol going to the nearest retail shop.

I much prefer having everything on steam now (i think ive got about 150 games on there), so that my collection stays intact. I have stopped buying games full price though, Ill always wait for sale, theres never one far away and what you pick up in one sale can do you through to the next.

Ive got about 130 of my games from steam in the sales, most at 75% + discount off.

this is only possible with some games not all.

although im not sure how you find out which ones you can.

only by trying your luck ;)

as in my case batman aa is sold by them, I would imagine it is possible with it...
I have this with Fear 2. lost disks but had the box and the key...registered the game and assosiated it with steam and now I can download ti via the store:)

it says if you can only download the game x number of times. some say 5 times every month/year or whatever.

steam is awesome - for their sales. wouldnt get games from there otherwise as it's more expensive than getting games 2nd hand or brand new sometimes

I tend to buy on Steam, yea it takes a while for it to download but at least everything is organised and backed up.

Plus it keeps your games up-to-date.

:D

i buy on steam, mainly in the sales but will occasionally pre purchase if discount is available.

never bother with disks anymore, don't even have an optical drive in my pc :p

you know something I have thought a lot about taking mine out of my computer, just don't know at the moment, but I could get a lot more HDDs in my computer then :D

I like having a physical collection of games I can put on my shelf.

It's like downloading music from iTunes. It doesn't compare to having a CD rack on display.

i own about 4 hard copies of games, the rest are on steam...about 70 at the mo.. i do however keep a full backup of all my most played games, just in case.
