Why use adblock etc when hosts is better?

I was just wondering why anyone bothers to use something like adblock when using a simple file with a huge list of sites works so much better, not only is it easy but it covers the whole system and does more than just ads by blocking allsorts of bad sites as well.

Because a host file needs updating manually.

Rarely, i don't even need to update it as it contains so much, i usually only do it when i reinstall the os which is once or twice a year, i very rarely see any new ads over that sort of time period.

Also if by manual you mean adding to the file you already have, no all you do is download a new one, if you have any sites you think you need to add then its easy to submit them which helps everyone.

Adblock can have it's uses but i like covering all outgoing connections, no messenger etc ads this way.
