I have always been an early adopter of Tech within our budget not that we are rich, yes I upgrade the computers and both mine and wife's gaming machines are good i6700k +m2 Samsung 950 pro + 1080ti.
My wife is disabled, I am retired to look after her, we do not go out so money gets put towards our hobbies.

When VR came along it was a complete OMG moment for both of us, after all being stuck in a house almost 24/7 for 21 years means we always pushed tech (one of the first resident properties in the UK that had BT Highway dual ISDN lines put in) I started ripping our Movie collection in the early 2000's and got rid of the 22" Tv replaced with a computer linked to a 28" Videowall section (huge square glass monitor) plus a TV card.

Now VR for my wife is a completely seated experience but it allowed her to see and experience multiple worlds and forget resolution and SDE when you are in pain 24/7 immersion and distraction is the key.
Playing Bridge Crew together is amazing and reminds me of our first days in Everquest exploring together her Shaman and my Mage.

Her eyes are not great but she loves it.

And I love to see her experience a world and do things most take for granted.

Now I think there is a lot of bad or secondhand information about the Vive Pro, I do not care how many followers a person has on youtube or how big a website is, it's still an opinion piece and should be judged as such.

As for me, I have spent upwards of 10 hours a day in VR, I wrote a Reddit post last year about my plan to "live VR" to do everything from web browsing and shopping online to gaming in VR" Palmer lucky replied to my post telling me VR was not ready. But I had my own opinion, many people thought I was torturing myself.

Well over 15 months later and I proved them all wrong, in fact, my subsequent blogs I gained some attention due to my tips and tweaks.

I had regular eye tests and over 15 months of 10+ hours a day, not just gaming but web browsing and posting (yes I'm posting this from my Vive) I lived and still live the VR life.

Eyes did not die or degrade, no sign of torture.

I found it impossible to play flatscreen games, I used to think keyboard and mouse were the ultimate control interface, I even bought an adapter for my Xbox One so I could play the Master Chief collection using a mouse and keyboard.

How did I read the web/Reddit/Overclockers? took SS to 1.5 and increased windows scaling to 125% that made all text easily readable (yes if you go from a 4k monitor to a Rift you will really notice it).

While many were sitting on the post waiting for SDE to disappear or resolution improvements I was actually living inside games and the future.

(currently not doing so the wife is in a hospital so obviously, VR is out the window.)

Now on to the Vive Pro (sorry just wanted to give some context)

I got to try a Vive Pro due to a friend, was able to spend 3 hours playing multiple games and using the computer in general, the comfort of the Vive Pro is worlds ahead of anything out there once on the head it is the most comfortable VR HMD hands down of all I have tried and by the end of the three hours I had no sensation of it being on my head.

Text and web work without any SS or scaling of windows is comparable to a good 1080p monitor.

Games well let's just say it, modded Skyrim VR looks absolutely amazing and runs like a dream, I am holding off on playing my own version until my Vive Pro arrives.
Elite dangerous is amazing on the Vive Pro truly another level of immersion.
American Truck Simulator being able to see the distant roads and cars once again its another level.

Is it worth 799? to me yes, I do not care what a Youtuber with a million subscribers says they are still just a person with an opinion, I suggest anyone should actually try this before trashing it.

799 is a lot but compare it to our graphics cards our systems or our gaming chairs, after trying it myself I would have happily paid £1000+

My Pro Arrives on the 16th and I will post here when I finally get to try it fully.

Glad its worked out well for you. I know that be in general will have a massive impact on the medical industry not just for training but for patients as well. Just like you said it becomes a distraction from reality which is all people need most of the time. The moment it becomes clear that it can help heal it will just explode into general use.

I for one can't wait for it to really take off, an actual real take on the ready player one oasis in my life time would be incredible.

Lovely to read how VR has influenced both of your lives, the Vive Pro isnt for me, the cost and the minimal improvements been it’s not for me, I’ll stick with my Rift and hope for a wireless adapter.
But enjoy your Vive Pro

Talking about medical the gear vr is set up all the time next to her bed, if she has anxiety or panic attacks in the night she puts it on an plays horror games, the immersion and scares of a fake distract and help her come out of the real world panic attack.
