why WDS capture create WIM locally before upload to WDS?

hi guys

started playing about with WDS server as we got around new 400 machines to roll out in few weeks

wondering why WDS capture image create WIM on local hard drive before upload to WDS?

is there anyway to skip this bit and upload to WDS straight away. it's not a problem but just wondering why, whats the benefit for it?
