I realised how little I use media on a PC the other day and the last time I used winamp it looked overly complex and just the same as media player essentially. What am I missing? Sell me winamp! What version etc and info would help.

You know for many a month ive wondered exactly the same thing however much my mate goes on and on about winamp and however much he slates media player i just cant see what the big dif is

I think you really need to look at how winamp compared to windows media player 3-4 years ago to see why winamp is prefered.

WMP has made huge leaps from around verion 9, but pre version 9 it really wasnt on par with Winamp and the die hard following on winamp still exists as WMP still isnt better even if its as good.

But real world scenarios and examples as to WHY it is better would be great!

I use winamp because I like being able to skin it to match my themes...

Also got some of my housemates using it because for some reason WMP refused to play MP3s for them and WinAmp did  I thought it was easier to just install WinAmp than even start to think why WMP might not be playing them... :p

Codec not installed? So skins are better....ok. Anything else?

That might be why WMP10 seems to take ages reading my media library, like when I left-click on a track it'll take about 10+ seconds just to read the file for accessing media functions (play etc). WinAmp doesn't have any kind of delay.

Have you tried the WMP11 Beta?

I haven't tried new beta 11, but I've always been a die hard fan of winamp for music and use WMP for videos. It's just something I have always used. Plus I find that it looks better and neater and had Ipod support a lot earlier.

Some people prefer Winamp, some prefer WMP.

Use whatever you like best
