I've got a partitoned drive for dual-booting - one for XP, and another for W2K3 server. When installed W2K3, I managed to hose the entry for the XP image which I need to get back at all costs. I've gotten around this problem in the past by running Hirens Boot CD from a CD drive and recovering using one of the utilities. Trying to do the same on this new rig of mine and I can't get the Hirens apps to load. I get lots of messages about drivers not loading, and none of the apps work. I'm wondering if this is something simple as I'm really in the crap if I can't get the XP partition back.

Can anyone help?

Bootcfg didn't help. It found one installation, but when I tried to rebuild it, it asked for the boot options, then said it couldn't add it to the list. I managed to screw the XP partition up properly when running on the W2K3 image by running testdisk. I'd read another post about recovering using that and gave it a whirl. Obviously it toasted the XP partition and stopped the W2K3 partiton from booting too. What a mess. If I could get one of the DOS programs to work I'd have a good shot at getting stuff back, but I don't have a floppy drive installed, and any DOS programs I use like Hirens is just throwing out driver errors. Stumped.

Gah. Trying bootcfg again but can't get past this:

Finds one Windows install.

Add Installation (Yes/No/All) :A
Enter Load Identifier: Win
Enter OS Load Options :

Error: Failed to add the selected boot entry to the boot list.

Not sure what to add for load identifier and OS load options. Leaving OS options blank seems to mess it up. Bah!
