Why won't you turn back on?!

Every time without fail I shut my PC down properly, it won't turn back on until the BIOS has been reset at least a couple of times- it's irritating and when I go back to uni no-one else in the house will be able to fix it if it happens. Has anyone heard of something similar and knows what might cause it? Spec is:

AMD 3500 (Newcastle)
Asus A8V
Radeon X800XT

That's it, apart from hard and optical drives.

A dodgy battery could cause the BIOS chip to corrupt the data stored. By resetting the BIOS you then clear the contents back to valid values.
Also many different components going faulty on the board could also cause it, resistors, ICs etc.
