Why would I need a dedicated sound card?

im no expert but i recently bought one and im loving it, im hearing things ive never heard before in my music, games and movies, the quality of the sound is much much better, and it offloads the work from cpu (i think)

You can think of it this way -
Why buy a a top of the range Hi-fi set up when you can buy Bush ghetto blaster from the supermarket.

:D

to be honest for my needs the built on sound card on board are good enough for what I personally use my pc for games/work/movies etc and with my speakers sound amazing.

However some people want even better quality (and built on sound does sound very very good remember) as they personally prefer the best of sound when gaming etc I dont think you would need one personally unless you want the best quality sound - esp for gaming!.
