My 24" widescreen is on the way just now but when it gets here I'll have that and my old 17" TFT.

I see that many people on here use a multiple monitor configuration but what advantages does that have over a single monitor and do you really need all your monitors to be the same spec?

Just so you can have some reference material on the other screen :)

I have thottbot open when I play World of Warcraft, API references when programming and iTunes most other times.

It's really just having screen real estate that can be left with something on.

Is it possible to make certain programs open maximised on a specific monitor without having to resize or move the window every time?

Maximising works independent on both screens; so if a window is minimised you can drag it between both screens; if you maximise it it'll maximise to the screen it's mostly in.

Basically, you have monitor outs, so as I expect you will anyway, when you get your new screen plug it in and see if you like it.

Most people I know, once going to dual screen, can't leave it.

Yup, its great fun.

Use your lil un for msn, web windows etc when gaming on the 24"

I had 2 but my screens have went from a 17 and a 19 to a 22 and 24 and my table has no room now.. :(

I couldnt live with out mine, im a photographer and when i use photoshop i have tools and other shots on one screen then i have the photo i'm working on my main screen. this means a lot more working space.
its also handy for reading emails and browising the web as i am doing now, not to mention watching films whilst working etc

Had Hold'em manager running full screen on my 17" while I played four tables of limit hold'em on the 24" tonight.:D

I think I might like this multi monitor malarky.

Need to calibrate them both though as currently one is noticably duller than the other.

Only 2, how do you manage ;)

3 x 2407WFP and 1 Sanyo Z4 PJ in action (not great quaility but you'll get the idea)

is there anything special you need to do when plug in 2 graphics cards? Like do you need a crossfire board? or would any old PCIe suffice?

I have 3x22" wide screens and a projector lying around so would be nice to get something hooked up :)

I have a Gigabyte P31-DS3L (old i know) and a ATI 4850

Hi,

Nope you don't need crossfire, just any old PCI-E, for Vista you need to make sure the GFX cards use the same unified drivers (e.g. come from the same series), I don't think this is a problem with XP or Windows 7, you can mix and match.

I remember when I started with multi monitor configs...it was back in 2005 when I bought a 19" LCD to replace my 15" but I used them both until I bought another 19" and sold the 15". For a good 2 and a half years I was using them both on the same PC, til I built my gaming machine which then finally got a 22" LCD...fast forward to now...and I have 4 monitors, 2x 19", 22" and 24"...one of the 19" is being used on my testing machine, the 22" is on the main PC, and the 24" is on the beastly gaming machine. Seeing as I use my laptop for everyday use I no longer see the point in multi monitor configs...so 5 computers and 4 monitors aint bad really...I should have the other 19" hooked upto the FTP server but thats only if the PC itself has problems...which is rare...

But once u start with 2 monitors you will want more and more :)

Different Wallpaper

Hi Headrat

How did you manage to get a different wallpaper on your middle screen compared to other screens ?

Thanks Mike
