Having just got off the bus from work I was walking home when i saw a police care driving towards me. Thinking nothing of it (obviously why would i?) i keep walking then the thing swerves towards me and flashes its lights. I jump.

The officer roles down her window and calls me over. She says I match the description of someone they're looking for. Mainly cause of my hoodie. She asks if i dont mind giving them some details, with no reason not to I oblige.

They ask expected normal things like name(with middle name requested too), age(D.O.B requested too), address and contact number. Her partner fumbling to write down all this in the short time im telling them. Then she asks me where I was born. Thinking nothing of it at the time I tell them.

But after some contemplation; why the hell would they need to know that? I mean the only thing they have on me is that im wearing a hoodie, which of course the perpetrator was too. She even said "I don't think its you we're looking for anyway."

Anyone know why they would need to know that? Also just out of curiosity what would my rights have been if i had declined to answer any questions?

I dont have a criminal record or anything, will I be on the PNC?

Also, assuming that Im not; I take I will be now?

its more a matter of privacy though, id rather not have them store all my details.

i know my details are stored all over the place like everyone else. But the fewer places the better right?
