Why you SHOULD be using Firefox

In the end I think it's just down to how you use the browser, I'm not saying it's wrong, but Firefox definitely doesn't seem to handle your workflow. Just use whatever you feel is comfortable. As someone who tries Chromium browsers every now and then, I personally haven't noticed any performance issues/differences on my personal desktop (see sig), Steam Deck, and an old work PC with a 4th gen i5 + intel IGP.

On the other hand I've been getting into d&d with Foundry Virtual Tabletop, although it claims to perform better on Chromium browsers, I'm actually finding the experience more reliable on Firefox.

I asked GROK which scoured over 30 websites for me and compiled this list ( I asked GROK to score the speed, which I agree is just an estimation, but Firefox is not even in the top 5, which should say enough):

The fact that it talks about Safari and uBlock Origin tells me the data is immediately wrong.

IDK about anyone else but the speed/performance of a browser would be pretty low down on the list for me, top of the list would be security & privacy.

I would've thought being fairly confident that the chances of a malicious site exploiting a bug are low and personal data isn't being collected should be a priority, especially with how i guess most of live our lives, from searches to the things we buy, through a web browser these days.

It's why i wouldn't touch a Chromium based browser with a barge pole, sure they maybe up on their security but the software is primarily written by an company that makes its money by selling advertising.

I scanned through that article and can't find anything I care about.
It is the only browser that blocks all ads for me properly, ubock origin and abp on other browsers simply don't, especially in video players.
Curiously, which video players does FF and UBo fail with?

Anyone else had an issue with Firefox constantly prompting for UAC when trying to install an update?

I manage a few work PCs for a small business and one keeps asking for admin password on every update. The maintenance service is installed and none of the other PCs ever ask for it.

Auto hide taskbar gets broken by FF137.

v137 on Windows 10 has an issue where it's rendering at too high of a window strata; i.e. it's above the taskbar when Firefox is maximised and the taskbar is in auto hide mode.

This is easily tested by dragging the Firefox window title bar to the top of the screen or simply double clicking it then trying to unhide the taskbar. Pressing the maximise button on the Firefox window controls sees the taskbar working as you'd expect (a bit weird).

Only Firefox does this, other apps are fine so it's not some weird Win 10 thing. Firefox has either been coded as 'on top' of the taskbar (maybe some bugged Fullscreen F11 code has creeped in here?) or it's getting re-sized to a size that's bigger than it should be, covering the secret taskbar pixels at the bottom of the screen?

This bug also applies if you have your taskbar at the top or on the side!

I've tried the same profile on Nightly and 138 beta and everything is fine. The 137 release version is broken.

The tab group thing doesn't seem to work for me in 137. The instructions are grab a tab and pull it slightly over another and it will create a group.

Not over here it doesn't.

Seems to be being enabled in a slow roll out rather than immediately available for some reason.

EDIT: You can enable it in about:config with browser.tabs.groups.enabled (there is also a smart variable as well which I'm not sure the functionality of).

EDIT2: Smart tabs:

New default browser. Zorin OS 17.3 replaces Firefox with Brave. Zorin Group says that this is in response to the recent privacy changes at Mozilla.

Zorin OS has changed from their default browser which seems like a overreaction to me.

Does anyone use Firefox portable? It's a bit of a beast to configure for the last several years so I use the version from portableapps.com. It still updates fine and is currently on 137. It runs off drive D instead of C and it means I can copy it to as many computers I want and they all work fine. The only thing I have to do for each machine is re-log into Gmail presumably for security reasons.

A few of you mentioned performance issues on this page. It's running fine on an old 2019 laptop with 9th-gen i7 and GTX 1660 Ti.

I've just had to replace YouTube High Definition, which I've used for a number of years now, with Enhancer for YouTube™. This was because I wanted to stop the autoplaying of the next video and for some reason YouTube High Definition stopped working, probably due to lack of updates for around 7 months at time of posting. Enhancer for YouTube seems to be doing what I want again, so I'm happy.

Been using Enhancer for YouTub for ages. Really good for, as you say, preventing autoplaying of videos. I set it to select 1440p and a nice dark theme with red tints.

I started using firefox to watch amazon prime videos as on google chrome on fullscreen they would glitch. might start using it more but I generally have both chrome and firefox downloaded
