Why's My Router Turning My Case On?

When i fire up my Netgear router, it's taken to starting up my puter's case fans; it never used to do that, what do i need to look at to change?

some generic Biostar thing that it came with.

"Just the fans..? "
yeah, still need a button push to fire the machine up.

"Why are you turning your router off in the first place? "
uh, cos i'm not made of money and there's no point having it on 24-7 when i only use it 1~2-7
 
It costs pennies to run a router and turning it off and on all the time can make the exchange hardware lower your link speed thinking there's something wrong with the stability of the connection to your router.
 
without veering into the running costs, which are irrelevant to this issue, having it on all the time would, at the present, seemingly keep switching bits of my machine on, which i don't want.
 
Disbable all wake on LAN or wol features in the BIOS and in define manager.

You really should leave your router on though. Each time it disconnects your ISP will think there's a problem and lower the speed.
 
ta. i've looked at what i can, everything seems disabled. i noticed last night that the fan is directly hooked to the router; i turn it on, the fan starts, i turn it off, the fan stopped.
 
Is the PC plugged into the same socket as the router and are you turning off at the socket? Or are you using an energy saving plug that powers down attached devices when the main socket is powered down? If so then make sure the BIOS setting for "Resume on AC loss" or similar is disabled.
 
mobo is a biostar gf8200.
puter and router are plugged into a multi-socket, never gets switched off at the plug, router gets powered off by its button, puter powers down from the Start button, PSU doesn't have a switch on the back.
 
Is the multi socket one of those power saving ones that kills the power to ask other sockets when socket 1 has no draw?
