Im thinking a game with the scale and budget of GTA, multiple disaster/end of the world scenarios, epic movie like action and scale with a good story and time limited tasks like escape the city while all the chaos is going on, having to save friends and collect supplies etc, could even have an aftermath mode where you have to survive, add multiplayer and this could be one of the most popular games in a long time, so why don't we have this already?

Unfortunately the focus mainstream or "AAA" game development is very much scripted linear games atm.

I just don't imagine any large developer making a large scale disaster game atm, and ofc console hardware would be a limitation on a game of such scale.

But on a more serious note, yeah I agree. Struggling to find a good time to purchase at the moment.

While a good story and epic movie like visuals would be great, i don't see why this couldn't work with what we have already, there's plenty of disater scenarios to choose from without going to the extremes of 2012, theres the classic nuke/meteor countdown to impact or virus/zombie outbreak to escape from which wouldn't take much to do in terms of whats needed to pull it off convincingly, things like alien invasions and stuff would involve a lot more to do well but plenty of games have done it already on a smaller scale, it can be done it just hasn't with the kind of game play im thinking, prototype comes close in chaos but has none of the excitement of trying to escape the city as an average man.

Been wanting something like this for years. The Last of Us on PS3 looks quite good, but I'm not sure it'll have the scale we're talking about here.
