Hi folks

Got a bit of a problem that is doing my scone in.

My home pc. When I am online is loosing the internet connection (or possibly the network connection) every 5mins or so, or every time if I try and view say a youtube video, or open a few pages, or do anything that uses a bit of bandwidth.

* I am connected to the internet 24/7 via my router

* My MSN is logging in and out all the time too and outlook cant get emails.

* I have a Netgear router and my pc is wired in via a network cable.

* I also have a laptop on WiFi which is having no issues.

* I also have another laptop wired into another port into my router with no issues.

* When I am struggling to get internet, both laptops can access the internet fine.

* I am also having difficulty accesing my router settings when it is playing up (via a webbrowser 192.168.0.1) so thinking problem is my PC --> router

* I have changed my network cable, changed port on router, renewed DNS etc and no improvement.

* It was fine last week, its just been happening for a week or so and very annoying! Usually the internet is back within 30 seconds or so!

* I havent done anything to cause it to happen. No new apps, or settings changed!

* I have had both PC and router off for over 12 hours

* I have run ad-aware deep scan with no improvement.

* I have up to date AV with no probs.

* I have disabled my firewall with no improvement

* I dont have windows firewall enabled

Any ideas? Im working on about 3 websites at the mo and this is really annoying me and slowing me down!

Cheers for any help!

Yeh i was wondering that. It is onboard. Not had any probs before but could be on its way out. I may have a spare I can try actually!

thanks for your help

I had a very similier issue at work, I was losing connection every 5min and i had to release and renew my ip address to re-connect.

In the end i reinstalled the driver for the on baord lan and it has worked ever since.

worth trying?

I have reinstalled network drivers and removed and re-added the card in device manager with no improvement.

only option left is to try a different network card, or posibly reformat windows!

perfect excuse to buy my new pc build from OC!!!

I cant connect to the router when it happens from my pc! (which is why i think its a network problem) the page times out (and its only a 192.168.0.1 address)

But I have 2 other laptops on the same router (1 wired, 1 WiFi) and both work FINE when my pc is not conecting!

It only happens for 30 seconds or so, usually just enough for the page to time out, then when I refresh its back to normal again!

Just tried another network card too with no improvement. So it has to be a windows problem!

I have renewed WINSOCK, DNS, IP, removed and re-installed client for microsoft windows too.

reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally annoying! I dont have time to re-install windows at the mo, iv got too much crap installed and setup that I need this week! arrrgh

If you had a spare HDD you could install windows to, then at least you could rule out the problem.

I had a PC acting as a server that had a most irritating issue like this - compounded by the fact it didn't have a monitor/keyboard attached to it, dropping network connections was desperately irritating! It wouldn't usually recover though - the connection would drop and not come back. I installed a new network card and it still had the same problem. I ended up swapping the motherboard and it went away - so I never actually found out the cause.
