Wi-Fi, behaving strangely [Solved]

Hello,

Recently, I've been experiencing an odd issue with my Wi-Fi. I have been using my second computer system as a mobile hotspot (via Windows' Network & Internet settings).

After turning the mobile hotspot on (using the network band 2.4GHz), I can connect to the network without issue — and it works. However, after my iPhone sleeps, it no longer works. It remains connected (i.e. the three Wi-Fi bars appear at the top of my phone, and my phone is visible in Windows' connected devices), but the connection simply stops working.

I have attempted forgetting the network on my phone, installing all the latest drivers, and resetting my network via Windows, without success.

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

That’s because when your iPhone sleeps it’s turning off the hotspot. It’s not a strange issue at all that’s by design to save battery.

You need to set it so your iPhone doesn’t sleep. Just plug your phone into charge while you use the hotspot.

The iPhone isn't the hotspot, it's a Windows PC.

I've never seen an iPhone shutdown the hotspot when it goes to sleep, they do switch the wifi network to being hidden so connecting a new client is a pain but clients that are already connected should carry on working.

OP - Why are you using a Windows PC as a wireless hotspot? There's better ways of doing it.

after a reread yep that’s how it is. :)

Apologies, I should have been clearer @Bouton Aide. There is, however, a 'power saving' option on the PC which I have set to 'off'. The odd thing about this issue is that only began fairly recently — and I am clueless as to why.

@the-evaluator you're not the first person to say that ... the reason is, I have two desktop PC's in my home, and they couldn't be further apart. Re: the PC in question, it is connected to the internet via a powerline adapter, as it is in too awkward a place to use an ethernet cable. I suppose using Window's hotspot is an amateur's way of setting up a quick, wireless connection. However, if there's a better solution, I'd certainly be glad to try it.

P. S. I ought to note that I am using the ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wi-Fi ATX Motherboard.

Since my last bump post, nothing has changed — alas. I have restored all Windows settings, deleted the drivers, updated the drivers, installed and uninstalled Connectify, and replaced ASUS' Wi-Fi antenna for a TP-Link dongle. Nonetheless, this bizarre issue abides.

Before I spend £40 on a — possibly unneccessary — powerline adapter with Wi-Fi, does anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening, and if there's a solution?

Have you tried setting the iPhone to a static IP
/DNS rather than letting it detect automatically? Might be worth trying?

Ladies and gentlemen, we got him. This seems to have solved the problem; since manually setting a static IPV4/DNS, I have had no issues connecting to my PC's mobile hotspot.

Much appreciated @VaderDSL, and all those who've contributed. :D
