Hi,

When I use my laptop to connect to my home network.....after 5 mins it keeps disconnecting I either have to restart laptop or wait 5 mins to get back on the network....

Any ideas why this happens?

Pls help

Thanks in advance...

Please provide more information.

What Wireless Access Point, Wireless card and WiFi client are you using?

Are you using the latest firmware?

Need more info as mentioned above.

I had the same problem with my laptop and wireless router. Default wireless channel was 6 but after increasing it to 13 (or 12, can't remember) its been pretty solid.

What encryption method are you trying to use?

Are you using Windows Wireless Zero Config to manage the wireless connection or the manufacturers software for the wireless adapter?

What is the wireless adapter?

A lot of people have been complaining with the integrated Intel wireless adapter 2200BG as suffering from frequent disconnection. Although I must say mines been fine.

I find its better to let XP manage wireless connections rather than manufacturer s/w - more stable.

Check that you dont have Xp set to allow power saving on the wireless adapter

Ok I will find out more information for you...

I know I am using WEP security, its on channel 11....and I have setup a key anyone who wants to get onto the wireless network must enter before doing so...

Re: Wi fi all I know atm is that its apart of the laptop....I use windows wireless network inbuilt software to access the network.....(But Like I said I will find out what version etc...) So I flick the switch on the laptop and windows pop up appears asking which network I would like to connect to....
