Hi,
I have BT Broadband. I would like to go Wi-Fi, what do I need to buy to go Wi-Fi?

Do I need a Netgear Universal WiFi Range Extender?

My laptop has wireless built in

You just need a hub that has wireless technology.

If you have a BT Home Hub, then it will have wireless capabilities.

they should have given you one when you signed up with BT. What router do you have at the moment? Are you using network cable plugged into your laptop just now?

Hi,
Thanks:)
Before I order the router, I have a few questions-

How easy is it to set up wireless router?

How secure are wireless routers?

How easy is it to set up the security on a wireless router?

Will that wireless router work ok with an Amazon kindle with built in Wi-Fi?

Wil that router work ok with Windows 7 64bit?
Also will it work ok with an xbox 360 and PS3 slim?

Will it work ok with an Apple iPod touch 8GB - 4th Generation

Do I need to buy anthing else?

1) Very easy, but for your convenience Netgear will include a CD that will run through a setup wizard with you and configure the router.
2) Pretty secure providing you dont set a wireless password that easy guessable, like your cat's name or kids name that your neighbours will know. WPA/WPA2 is more secure than WEP
3) Yes, as above the CD Setup Wizard will do it for you
4) Any WiFi device will work, whether it's an amazon kindle, or ipod touch or iphone, laptop etc ... WIFI is pretty generic stuff
5) Works with any version of Windows / MAC /Linux / etc
6) Yes, you can connect your xbox/ps3 either via cat5 cable if your close enough, or over wireless (xbox needs a wireless adapter purchasing, ps3 has it built in)
6) Providing all your devices have WiFi built in then no extra kit will be needed. Only if you have an old laptop that doesnt have wifi built in then you'd have to buy a USB dongle/card

If ensure you obtain your ISP username/password from either your paperwork, old router, or ISP themselves as you will need to enter this on the new router

Any further q's, please post

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I was going to buy an TP-Link TD-W8961ND 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router, not a Netgear one.

After reading a few poor reviews on Amazon about the TP-Link TD-W8961ND 300Mbps, dropping connections.

Does anyone on here have a TP-Link TD-W8961ND 300Mbps router? is it any good?
