Well, I got a new VAIO (the FZ series). It was just before it was taken by a family member on a trip to India. Prior to that trip, I connected to my home wireless perfectly fine with it.

However, when the family member returned from India, the wi-fi just didn't work (I don't think they attempted to connect to any networks there).

Upon its return, it would not connect to my home wireless at all. After a bit of working out why (Vista's own troubleshooting things were, naturally, useless), I noticed that the 'WLAN' light that normally would be illuminated was hopelessly off (all other lights next to it were on).

Well...hopefully some of you will be able to have an idea as to how this can be sorted out.

Yes, I knew about the switch thing. I didn't realise myself until I checked the Sony website. Bit silly in some ways isn't it? I'm hardly surprised I'm not the only one!

I'll check Tom and Stellios' suggestions tonight after I get a bite to eat.

Thanks for your time.

Quackers - no, it doesn't show any networks at all.

Darko - Toshiba isn't really my taste. Each to their own. :-)

Anyway, I've checked the device manager and WLAN Autoconfig. Nothing out of the ordinary. Yes, the switch is on. The Bluetooth light next to the WLAN light is on - leading me to assume that it is possible that the switch is not altogether faulty.

What else could it be?

My Dell laptop (Just like my previous HP) has a FN / 4 Combination to turn wireless on and off. Seems a bit suspicious. Is the card actually there?

I'm not sure what a FN / 4 combination is at the minute, but I would be pretty sure there's a card there, as I've successfully connected to my home network before the trip abroad. It even picked up my neighbours' networks.

Is it a FZ21? I have the same laptop and can report there is no Fn key that has a function to operate the Wi-Fi it is simply the switch at the bottom, if it isn’t picking up an networks and you have the switch on and the wireless card enabled in the internet settings then it will be faulty, phone Sony and find out if this is a known fault and they will be able to advise you.

It's a FZ31Z.

It does seem that probably my only option now is to call Sony.

Thank you for your time, everybody. Hopefully things will be resolved quickly.
