Hi all i have a 5d3 with only a 50mm nifty fifty and a 70-200 f2.8 and looking to get something wider.

my choices are 24mm L, 35mmL or a 16-35L. i would love a 24-70 mk2 but its out of my price range.

budget £1100.

Open for more suggestions. it will be used for this:

Landscape
Group indoor shots of people

What things i would like:

  • Weather sealing
  • Fast AF.
  • Fantastic Bokah
  • Brilliant in low light(F2.8 stop minimum).
  • Built like a tank

This will save me from potentially carrying two cameras with me(my old 400d with a 17-50 tamron)

From what I gather the 16-35 doesn't tend to be worth it over the 17-40 unless you particularly need that extra stop.

There were rumours of a canon 14-24, but they don't seem to have materialised which is a bit of a pain. I also suspect it would be out of budget.

I'd probably need the extra stop for indoor shooting of groups of people.

for straight landscape i wont need it :)

The sigma looks nice but aint the max f stop 11?

For landscape, a higher F stop number is very useful

Your budget is £1100
35 1.4 is £600 on grey import, £700 and a bit on UK models
17-40 is £500 grey import, £550 on UK, c £450 second hand depending on condition

That can be as little as £1050, and I've seen 17-40s go for a lot less than £500 on forums rather than second hand websites

Cool thanks.

What about a zeiss 21mm? people say that lens just beats any of the canon offerings hands down! Only issue is that it is MF.

I could get this for my 5d3 http://www.focusingscreen.com/
