So my birthday is approaching & I'm deciding what the wife will buy me :D

I'm currently using a standard size lg flatron (m1917tm) 19" monitor.
(along with athlonx2 6000+/gainward gtx 260 gs)

So I thought about this 22" widescreen monitor ( Samsung T220 ) I'm not bothered about desktop space etc where widescreen benefits are concerned...just the gaming side.

Was surprised to find the 22" screen height was actuall smaller than my 19" So wondered if it will feel any bigger/better at all when gaming.

Also wondered if it was worth the hassle...as is the hassle of pictures not always fitting the screen properly on normal widescreen tv & having to adjust it to a better fit. I can see distortion on the horizon else black bars either side. (which is going to make a game look crap after getting used to widescreen....)

So....did anyone else have these doubts but glad/or not so glad they moved over?? (gaming wise) I'm thinking there's nothing wrong with my current monitor & it might be throwing cash away. My specs should be up to the job either way I think.

TIA...Andy.

Oh I forgot..max res for current monitor is 1280*1024

BTW...came across this site....might prove useful...

Games work fine on wide screen monitors. PC gaming resolutions are not like widescreen tv broadcasts. You wont have black bars. 1680x1050 is better than 1280.

Battlefield 2 for one seems to look stretched out in the link in my top post when played on a widescreen.

Tnx for the reply yashiro. (Might just settle for a new phone instead. erm..with a wider screen :\

I have just gone drom an IBOX 19" probably around 4/5 years old now to the samsung t220 and i LOVE IT.

Played BF2 earlier and have done the widescreen fix and it looks brill a lot better colours but being a old game you don't see as a noticable difference when you play game like Crysis, all i can say is WOW.

Just general use is some much better. One of my best buys this year especially for £130.

phone/monitor/phone/monitor.....tnx for the posts...really tempted to get the monitor now....will have to nip into pc-world just to see a 22" ws...then buy from here of course :) Have bookmarked that fix link..nice one....tnx again all...Andy.

The difference is amazing.... Truly.

I never got widescreenfixer working with BF2, Not that i noticed anything change when i ran it than the in-game resolutions. The playing experience is worth it though, Crisp pictures and vibrant colours on the newer games.

Welcome to 5 years ago. :D

:D

i have two 22inch wide screens and one 26 inch widescreen and all the games i have work on them fine and if you running visa wide screen is a lot better as the side bar can take up a lot of space if you use it also samsung make very nice monitors all mine are samsung

Personally I don't think widescreen gaming is all that, but high res / big screen gaming is, and pretty much all large monitors are widescreen these days.

The new beta patch for BF2 (yes, they are releasing a new patch shortly!) adds support for wide-screen resolutions properly into the game :-)

Wow sorry for the ignorance, didn't know this thread was still going! Tnx for the recent comments...(& yeah richdog my kids tell me I'm a dinosaur all the time :p )

"all about the resolution"....as said, my current standard monitor is 1280*1024
& the Samsung T220 is 1680*1050. Is there really going to be a noticeable difference between the two resolution-wise?

& this brings me to another question! The T220 1680*1050 over a 1920*1080full hd...(22" wise). Read some commenters here & there not liking the full hd image etc...

Never thought buying a monitor would get this complex! TIA again! Andy.
