Ok so I really like the look of these widescreen monitors, they have a higher resolution than 1080p as they are wider, so how do games look when they are played at 1080p?

Also if the screen is a wide screen would it be better to get a gpu higher than gtx 1070?

Do you mean ultrawide or widescreen?

No it doesn't distort images, it keeps OAR (original aspect ratio) If you games support UW choose that resolution.

It's no different to choosing 16:9 in your game settings now. Not all games support UW though.

With a 1070 I'd say stick to a 2560x1080 UW, ideally 29" if you want high DPI, or 34" for gaming but it may look pixelly on desktop.

The lg 34" on sale on OC looks really good. Would a 1080 be better?

Depends. The 34" on offer has 144hz. It's huge. But it has low PPI, which isn't great for desktop. Also possibly for games too, as you may need to use AA.
The 29" UW looks better but 29" is pretty small (vertically) and is only 75hz.

Plus the 34" has wider freesync range.

I'm debating the two. Ideally I'd like the 3440x1440 version, but it is only 75hz which also means limited freesync range, plus it'll be slow for games..unless willing to sacrifice res or detail settings, or both.
