Widescreen Monitor or New Gpu?

After the Summer I'm considering treating myself to something for the computer, however I'm torn between either a new Widescreen monitor pref an OLED or upgrading the EVGA 3070 ti OC to a 4080. I tend to play a lot of Battlefield 2042, Skyrim etc. So what do you think would be a wise decision? :D

10900KF @ 5.1 1.380v : Noctua NH-D15, Z590 AORUS ELITE, 32gb 3400mhz Corsair Vengeance pro RGB, Superflower 850 PSU, Evga 3070 TI FTW 3 Ultra OC , Dell Gsync 144HZ 1440p

For Skyrim, the monitor (unless you have modded graphics), because the 3070 Ti should handle it fine, not sure about Battlefield 2042.

You're current set up looks fine! Probably a UW monitor if that's what you really want.
Is that TN or IPS?

If TN then a new IPS or OLED monitor will transform your games. Keep the old monitor as a secondary.

Thanks all!!

TN, one of the best Monitors I've ever used! But did need a lot of tweaking ( colours, profiling )

So looks like it's a future monitor upgrade then :)

Monitor. If you want ultrawide, aw3423dw qd-oled. If wide only, personally id go with a LG oled ‘tv’ for the burnin ‘courtesy’ replacement warranty. Although the tv might be too big, 42” i think.

I’m on the aw3423dw and it’s the best display i’ve played on, ever. HDR is better than on my CX, in some cases way better.

BF2042 should look great in HDR, skyrim doesnt have native support but autohdr is okish. Even if the content is only SDR, you’ll still get the benefit of OLED ( perfect blacks, no bleed, no ghosting, etc ).

Awesome cheers! Does the GSYNC Ultimate fan work ok? I've read they can get very noisy
Can only speak for the one i have. I’ve also read this but it doesnt seem to affect all users the same? Either that or it’s different batches, not sure.

While gaming, and i’m sitting at an arms length, i can’t hear it. My pc makes more ‘noise’ and i got noctuas all around, with max rpms of 1700 ( on my cpu ). Can only hear it if i stick my ear to it. Also can hear it after i shut everything down and its dead silent in the room ( Fan keeps going for 10 mins to cool off then stops ).

Only thing i do hear however is when browsing or something ‘light’ for the monitor - it can woosh occasionally ( like a very light wind sound, 1 second at a time ).

In my case, again, doesnt bother me, and i’m very sensitive to annoying sounds ( like whirring from fans, loud fans, coil whines from gpu/psu etc ).

That being said, you can also look at the dwf ( freesync version ). Can only say why i personally went for the gsync, but the freesync has a few pluses i think.

1) Gsync vs freesync as tech, gsync still edges out in some cases.

2) HDR performance - at launch gsync was way better due to bad toning on the freesync one, gsync ultimate monitors are more QA tested to reach certain standards, freesync monitors not - think this was fixed via firmware in the meantime.

3) The gsync version was actually cheaper for me ( made no sense but whatever, 1000e vs 1100e)

4) Freesync version can be firmware updated at home afaik, gsync not, stuck with this firmware unless you send it back to dell/alienware.

Generally id recommend buying most things from a close store that you can also return the product in case of anything that bothers you in the first 30 / 60 days ( we have eMAG here which has this policy ). Just in case.

Good luck with your purchase.

Ps: used it for more than 1500 hours since i purchased it last year ( it did the pixel cleaning thingy - the 1hour one, not the small 7 mins one it does every 4 hours ). Also if you go oled/qdoled either way, let it do its refreshes - on the tv once you turn it off, do not unplug - it refreshes for 10 mins then you’ll hear the click; the monitor will do it every 4 hours ( accumulated ).

My CX has 3 years already - no burnin
My Aw only 1 year - no burnin

Also had a B8 before the CX - no burnin

I was faced with the same decision this year.

I had a 4K monitor and a 3070ti. But the 3070ti just wasn't cutting it. Originally, I wanted to upgrade to a 4080.

When the 4080 launched, to say I was disappointed with the price is the understatement of the decade. My one thought was that if NVIDIA intend to continue playing this ridiculous game of lowering performance and wildly increasing prices, then I would be better going for a monitor that was easier to drive. I bought a Dell QD-OLED UW. The AW2423DWF. What an amazing monitor! Apart from an incredible picture, the downgrade in size means that I can now live with my 3070ti for many years yet to come. I have no doubt that games will continue to require more power and especially more memory, so I don't expect my 3070ti to last forever, but I just could not bring myself to play NVIDIA's game.

I have the F version, which works impeccably with NVIDIA, despite being Freesync. It does not have a GSYNC fan of course, but I also have a Dell monitor that does have GSYNC-Ultimate and I can't hear it. With all monitors, though, hum, buzz, whirs and stuff, it's all random. Just because I got two silent monitors doesn't mean you will.

If you want to go the monitor way, both of the DW's are just awesome.

I tried auto hdr and it blasts hud in games at full brightness which isn’t good for oled displays.

Does depend on which game it is. Many games have a HUD brightness control, and I certainly would worry about some that don't.

I think one of the best HDR games is Borderlands III. The weapon effects are just amazing. They really pop.

Get both, you know you deserve it. ;)

Monitor first, it will have the biggest impact and wow factor. Then the extra pixels might force a gpu upgrade.

If you get gpu first the decision to spend again is harder.
It's a really unfortunate situation, as the 3070ti 8GB would probably would still be fine for most games at 1440p other than the more demanding ones, but it would run out of vram before it runs out of grunt unless dropping texture details to low or medium quality and not enable Raytracing.
