I'm thinking of getting a 1920x1200 24" monitor to replace my 1280x1024 19". I don't want to have a wide view when in windows, just in games. Is it possible to set the screen so I get a 4:3 display while in windows?

Also will the font size look physically smaller at 1900x1200 on a 24" compared to 1280x1024 on a 19" in the same way a 17" has a smaller font size than a 19" at 1280x1024?

Yes you can set 4:3 under your monitors options. You can change your font by right clicking your desktop and changing your options under properties.

I probably didnt explain well. Everything appears smaller on a 17" at 1280x1024 compared to a 19" at 1280x1024. Would everything appear smaller on a 24" compared to my 19"? What is the screen height of a 24"?

I'm concerned about the same thing. I got a look at a 24" in a store and it looked pretty much the same as my 19".

I'll do a side by side comparison when my 24" arrives.

Entire the figures as required - a 19" @ 1280x1024 is 5:4 ratio and a 24" WS @ 1920x1200 is 16:10 ratio. Ignore the picture of the naked bird ;)
Look at the last line - pixel density. The smaller the number, the larger the actual pixels. For a given font dpi, larger pixels (smaller pixel density) = larger characters.
